Thursday Thoughts vol.1

Apparently, Beyoncé bought some shoes that cost $312,000, and some criticized her for it.  I'm sure if you compare Beyoncé's financial portfolio and mine, that would be like me buying a pair of shoes for $5...a drop in the bucket.  Yes, it is an exorbitant amount of money to spend on shoes, but she has an exorbitant amount of money in her bank.  What's the difference between $300k+ diamond-encrusted shoes and a $300k+ diamond-encrusted necklace?  I can assure you there are many wealthy people wearing jewels that cost that much.  Queen Bey is a philanthropic, charitable celeb.  I am certain that she has donated more than $300k+.

I must admit, I'm more sad than I should be over a celebrity break-up when it comes to the announced split of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale.  Gwen Stefani is one of those that gals who I want to be happy.  I don't know why.  Maybe it was because No Doubt's Tragic Kingdom was one of the soundtracks of my early twenties, and it was filled with lyrics about heartache and love lost.  Way before Taylor Swift become the queen of lyrical heartache and ex-boyfriend chatter, Gwen was doing it.  So, she hooked up with Gavin, who seemed like a naughty boy that the nice girl tamed.  They got married with Gwen in the most amazing wedding dress ever, and she gushed about marrying the third guy she ever kissed, and they had three adorable, ultra cool kids...they seemed like a celebrity couple that I cared about working out.  Alas, it didn't.  I'm sad.  But imagine the lyrical content Gwen has now.  (too soon?)

On the other hand, I could care less about Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck and an alleged cheating scandal.  Call me heartless.

Remember a few weeks ago when there was a shark encounter in South Africa at a surfing competition?

That surfer is world champion Australian Mick Fanning.  I watched Australia's version of 60 Minutes Sunday night where he was interviewed the first time as he went back in the water.  It makes for a good story - he's a good lookin' guy who has been at the top of his game, the shark encounter happened on live tv, there were 9 (long) seconds that we couldn't see him after seeing the shark approach, he punched a great white shark...plus, his family lost his brother in a car accident years ago, and you could feel his mum's anxiety of those moments feeling like she could have lost her other son.  I might have got goosebumps...and a little teary.

I know many bloggers make confessions on Wednesdays.  I've got one to share today...on a Thursday...I'm  a rebel like that.  If you read Constantly Seeking Wonder, you know that Kati is a massive One Direction fan.  I witnessed Kati's twitter excitement when 1D released a new song this week.  I confess that I watched One Direction's performance of their new song "Drag Me Down" on Good Morning America, and I liked it.

I like to share my thoughts, and I like to be random...so, a link-up that is a place for random Thursday Thoughts?  Sounds good to me!  Join in:

  1. Oh gosh that shark thing, I was so relieved to see him get away unhurt and especially hearing about his family losing his brother, thankful. 1D has some good songs, but I haven't heard their new one, so that's going on my to do list, lol. When Twilight, the Jonas Bros and High School musical was popular circa 2008 I felt like a total teeny bopper!

  2. Thanks for linking up! Also, I didn't know about Gwen & Gavin! So sad!!!! I loved reading about and seeing pics of her wedding with her pink-dipped dress. I'd hoped they'd be a celeb couple that made it. :(

  3. I'm with you on the Gwen and Gavin breakup! They just seemed so happy together, and like one of the celebrity couples that would actually make it!

  4. I don't care what Beyonce spends money on, it affects my life in no way.

I'm sorry for Gwen too, she is one of my favorites!

  5. I'm so shocked about Gwen and Gavin, didn't expect that at all. I guess that is Hollywood for you.

  6. Mick Fanning is BAD ASS. Seriously.

I don't care what people spend their money on as long as they're not crying poor. She's not, so go on girl with your zillion dollar shoes.

I'm sad about Ben and Jen and also Gavin and Gwen. And any marriage that breaks up. It sucks.

  7. I am uber-sad about Gwen & Gavin as well. I thought they were in it for the long haul - beautiful people, making beautiful babies & beautiful music. However, I am excited to see what songs come from this cuz I'm sure they'll be pretty kick ass. :)

  9. Psh Beyonce can do whatevah she wants! People are crazy. Sorry you'll never be able to afford $300K shoes, but Beyonce is Beyonce and can afford everything. I'm sad about Gwen and Gavin and I don't even know much about them (because they are a pretty low-key celeb couple--which I think is why I'm sad, because they seem so normal!).

  10. I'm sad for Gwen and Gavin too. I was singing my face off in the car the other day to "Don't Speak" and was nostalgic of the past.

I hadn't heard of the shoes Bey bought but wow. Who's to say you or I wouldn't do the same with hundreds and hundreds of millions or billions, whatever they have. I bet the look the bomb.com lol

  11. The shark thing was pretty epic! I watch the video a couple times! Also I think people should be able to buy what they want to buy. As long as you're still providing for your family and clearly Beyoncé is, then you should be able to buy the things you like because everybody has their thing! When I have extra cash I like to blow it on make up a nerd stuff there's nothing wrong with that!

  12. I feel like a proud mother Erin. I now understand what my mother felt when I started listening to The Grateful Dead and admitted they weren't half bad ;) I'm glad you enjoy them though! And that you're still friends with me after my late night freak out. That's what true friendship is built on.

  14. Really, the only celebrity couple in the news I cared about this week was Kermit and Miss Piggy, although Gwen and Gavin did make me a little sad, mostly for 1990s me. It's like a part of my early adulthood is dead. Not that I'm overly dramatic today or anything.

So, musical confession. My daughter loves this band, Rixton. They're like a second class One Direction except really not. She makes me listen to one particular song and I actually enjoy it. I guess if it's a good song, it's a good song. Artist is irrelevant.
