Out of touch with the world of TV

Of the "big" winners at the Emmy's ........

Outstanding Drama Series - Game of Thrones

Outstanding Actress in a Drama - Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder

Outstanding Actor in a Drama - Jon Hamm in Mad Men

Outstanding Comedy Series - Veep

Outstanding Actress in a Comedy - Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep

Outstanding Actor in a Comedy - Jeffrey Tambor in Transparent

...I've not watched one episode of any of the above shows.  I haven't watched Olive Kitteridge (Outstanding Limited Series), and I've never seen a full episode of The Daily Show (Outstanding Variety Talk Show).  Gasp!  I know.  I think Amy Schumer is hilarious, but I haven't seen a full episode of her show either (Outstanding Variety Sketch Show).

You know what I have watched of all the award winners on the primetime broadcast?  The Voice (Outstanding Reality Competition).

Right or wrong, this is the one I've actually watched.  Only a season or two.  Because, in Australia, we have our own version of The Voice with different coaches, and I watch the Aussie version.  We've only had Jessie J one year, and I'm really hoping to get Keith Urban back after he's done with his American Idol stint.  But, I digress....

If and when I'm watching television, I'm usually on the Crime & Investigation network watching some show about horrible criminals in America, Australia, or Britian (because we get a mix of shows from all three).

And, I don't have Netflix.

Is that proof enough that I'm out of touch with the world of television?

Are you a television junkie?  Or, are you like me, a television ignoramus?

Pics are from eonline.com or emmys.com or smh.com or my own edit.

  1. I have Netflix, but I've not watched any of the shows above. I tend to find random, obscure shows and then binge watch them until I'm done. Oh and the day they start giving out awards for HGTV shows I'll start recognizing some people. HA!

  4. Since seeing Trainwreck, I have become Amy Schummer #1 fan.
I started to read Olive Kitteridge but just couldn't finish the book.... but loved the series. go figure!

  5. I have Netflix/Hulu/Amazon and the only shows I watch are Pretty Little Liars, The Walking Dead (I am a whole season behind! whoops!) American Horror Story and 2 Broke Girls. THAT'S IT! I'd rather watch movies! But I am stoked for Scream Queens!

  6. I'm pretty out of touch too. I used to watch Mad Men but haven't in forever. Game of Thrones is the only one I watch for sure.

  7. I knew of all the shows nominated but with the exception of Mad Men and a little bit of Amy Schumer, I've watched none of them. However, I do watch many of the shows that didn't win so I'm not sure what that says.

I'm going to gift you a month of Netflix because you need it in your life.

  8. I couldn't get into Game of Thrones but I do love How To Get Away With Murder. I have missed the last few seasons of Mad Men. I have Netflix though and DVR so I can record and watch when I have time which is hardly ever.

  9. The only one I actually watch is How to Get Away with Murder. I watched the first two seasons of GoT then gave up. I have heard of all of the shows, but still have no idea what Olive Kitteridge is about.

  10. I've never watched any of the shows you listed, I'm a book girl but if the TV is on it's showing HGTV or football!

  11. I have satellite with a billion channels, plus Netflix AND Amazon Prime and I haven't watched any of these shows either.

  12. Love Viola Davis. It's a great show, same creator as Greys Anatomy but great plot and she's a phenomenal actress. I didn't watch th Emmys. I never watch awards shows.

Fun fact: we got rid of cable three years ago and only watch things online or Netflix. The one downside is that I never see previews for movies. And I just saw an amazing preview yesterday for a Jason Bateman movie called the Gift and it looks riveting.

Have a great hump day babe! Xo

  13. Yes to Keith Urban on Australian Voice. :) I really want to watch Amy's show, but haven't. We watched like two episodes of Veep but we didn't get into it, I tried to watch Mad Men and hated it, we watched like 30 seconds of the first episode of Game of Thrones and decided no way (all we saw was horses galloping in the woods...I'm not sure what it was, I guess we just knew it'd be all old-timey and we were not down with it?)...I can't watch How to Get Away With Murder because Shonda Rhimes' shows start good and you fall in love and then she just keeps them going too long and ruins them.

That being said, we do watch a lot of TV. Just not the award winning kind I guess! Haha.

  14. I think I fall somewhere in between TV Junkie and TV Ignoramus.

For example, Eric and I just started watching Lost on Netflix a month or so ago. We're only on season 2 and neither of us had ever seen any episodes before. We're obviously way behind.

However, I'm only a season behind on Pretty Little Liars. I'm obsessed with that show (it's embarrassing how much I love it), but I can never get completely caught up because we got rid of cable a few years ago. I always have to wait until each season is released on Netflix.

I've only seen the first season of Game of Thrones (back when we still had cable and HBO). I liked it, but I just haven't bothered to watch any more. The only other show I've seen that you mentioned above is Mad Men. I liked the first couple of seasons of that show, but I never really got into it.

The only show I actually care enough to watch regularly (on live TV, anyway) is MasterChef (and MasterChef Junior). I love Gordon Ramsay! Eric gets really into it as well, so it's fun for us to watch it together.

  15. I think we all have our things. Tv, movies, books, music, etc. But you really can't have them all (or if you do somehow you have mastered time manipulation and need to share your secret.) While I've watched a handful of the shows above there are a few that no matter how much they win you won't be able to convince me to watch it. I don't feel like I'm missing out at all either. Plus, Twitter spoils it all nowadays anyways.

  16. Could be worse. You could only watch every reality show there is instead of just being out of touch in general (as you say you are). However, of the shows that won, I really only loved Mad Men. I don't really like Veep at all and haven't seen some of the others.

  17. i haven't seen most of these either. i will miss mad men. i've never seen veep.

  18. We unhooked our TV over 15 years ago and never looked back. In our house, we're typically both reading and there may be music playing. Other than that, we watch our five felines race around the house and pet them. I do admire Viola Davis's talent, however, and am glad to see her succeed! :)

  19. i have seen a few episodes of game of thrones and mad men.. but don't watch either of them religiously or anything. i have never even heard of the others, wtf is veep?!

  20. Haha, I'm a total ignoramus too! Except I do watch Game of Thrones, but none of the other winners, and honestly I have no interest in watching any of them, except maybe Amy Schumer. She's pretty hilarious.

  21. I know nothing about TV with the exception of the few shows I follow (Grey's, Mad Men, and a few others that I'm seasons behind on). It all started when I went overseas and didn't have immediate access to my shows that I followed. Because apparently the US hates everywhere else and decides to cockblock everyone's viewing pleasure because country rights.

  22. I do not have Netflix either. I did watch an episode of Transparent a while ago and liked it but I haven't watch more yet. There are already other shows I cannot catch up with. I am pretty much behind on every show but I re-watched Moone Boy and Black Books recently because those shows are just so good.

  23. Late to the party since I'm catching up on everybody's blog posts while I was out of town...I LOVE Veep. I don't know if it's because I like politics and/or kinda sorta work in politics but gosh I just laugh out loud throughout the show. JLD is hysterical as are the rest of the cast members (including that girl from My Girl). It's worth watching...I think the first few seasons are available if you're an Amazon Prime member.
