Literary Ladies Book Challenge

Book "clubs" aren't really my thang...but book challenges...that's a whole different story.  I'm a little bit of a book challenge junkie.  Currently, I'm in four (including hosting Book Challenge by Erin) and this one I'm about to tell you about...that makes five!

When Kristen announced she was joining Kari & Krystal for the literary ladies book club AND there's a challenge, well, I couldn't pass it up.

http://www.thekaytimes.com/2015/06/literary-ladies.html

Here's the categories and my list:

2. Non US Author - The Rosie Effect by Graeme Simsion - I've been on my library's wait list ever since this book was released.  My time is getting nearer.  I'm ready to read this Australian author's follow-up to The Rosie Project.

3. A book that was recommended by a blogger (or instagrammer / you-tuber / goodreads-er) - Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler - When Steph was interviewed in Jana's Interview with a Bookworm series, she recommended this one.

4. A book that has been on your TBR list for a year or more - The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston and Maria Spezi

5. A book with a kickass female character - Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen - I promised Kristen I'd read this, and I haven't yet.  Since she's a co-host, I figured now's a good time for it.

6. A book that is or will be a movie (or TV show) - This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper

7. A book written by a comedian or celebrity – or even a memoir if neither of those are your jam. - Dancing with Myself by Billy Idol

8. A book with a one word title. - Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides

9. A suspenseful book – a mystery, a thriller, a book about revenge! - The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (because it is finally my turn in the library wait list to pick up this book!)

10. A book about Summer, with Summer in the title, or in any way related to Summer because this is a Summer challenge! - Summertime by Vanessa Lafaye  - (apparently, this has also been released as Under a Dark Summer Sky depending on what part of the world you live in.) - Speaking of what part of the world you live in, where I live, this is a winter challenge...hence, my choice for YA books.  See what I did there.  ;)

If you don't like all my book posts, carry on.  If you do, what do you think about book challenges?

  1. I read Wintergirls years ago. I like just about anything by Anderson..especially her historical fiction.
You will love The Girl on the Train. For once I feel ahead of the rest of the book-blogging community because I read it in January lol.

  3. I'm currently in four that have categories, plus a year long "read your tbr list" and a year long one for my library to read 100 books. I'm not sure what I was thinking, to be quite honest.

  5. The Rosie a Effect was so good! I gave up on waiting for The Girl on the Train from the library and listened to the audiobook while we were on our road trip in New Zealand. It was so good we didn't want to get out of the car!

  8. I like reading challenges, because they give me an excuse to buy new books but 5? My goodness! I haven't heard of most of these, but I'm interested to see what you think!

  10. I like the one book club I'm a part of because it's with a group of friends and we have similar taste in books, and I really like the discussions we have afterwards. I've never participated in a challenge other than the one I set for myself in Goodreads but this one looks interesting. I have The Girl on the Train and Middlesex on my TBR list too-- good luck in the challenge!

  11. I'm not really a book club kind of girl simply because I don't like being on a reading schedule. And if I can't get into the book - forget it. It will take me forever, although I hate leaving them unfinished, even if I hate it :)

The Girl on the Train was good. The main character Rachel - oy. She drive me nuts 90% of the book. But it's a good read. I was supposed to read Middlesex years ago and never got around to it. oops! Good luck! Maybe we should read P&P at the same time! haha

  12. Love your choices! The Girl on the Train is a great read, even though I probably wouldn't re-read it. It was fast-paced though and I had to find out what happened! I just finished Pride & Prejudice on audiobook for the first time, and loooooved it in that format!!! I also have to say I didn't love the Rosie Effect as much as the Rosie Project, but still a good read. Good luck with the challenge!!!!

  15. SO many of these books are on my neverending TBR list! It makes me so happy to see them here on your prelim lists so you can tell me all about them :)
So glad you're picking up Pride & Prejudice - the best book ever! And I can't wait to hear what you have to say about This Is Where I Leave You and Wintergirls, oh and Middlesex. Just everything! LOL
Thanks for joining us, girl! <3

  16. I almost added Shotgun Lovesongs to my list. The Rosie Effect was good but I know the reviews were split.

  17. I almost chose Wintergirls for my YA pick. It sounded really interesting and different from many of the books I've read.

I read Middlesex a few years ago, and I really liked it. Jeffrey Eugenides writes beautifully! At some point I want to read The Virgin Suicides ... I love (and own) the movie (this is one of those rare cases where I saw the movie before I read the book), and I'd love to see how the novel compares.
