Signs that I am old and out of touch

I've tried pretty hard not to admit that I'm getting older, that I'm in my forties, but I can't run away from some of my old skool ways any longer.  Here's some evidence that I am indeed getting old and out of touch in some aspects of my life...

I've never downloaded a movie.  I'm sure I could figure it out but never done it.  I still rent dvds or watch them on satellite tv.  Nope.  Don't have Netflix either.

I still read books.  No e-books.  No audio books.

I'm not always down with the lingo that the kids speak.  "Miley, what's good?" What does that even mean?

I know she's 18 years old now, legally an adult, but I get very uncomfortable when I see pictures like this from Kylie Jenner's instagram.  (Really, any teenager posting similar pics, but she's the one we see the most.)  Let me clarify that I do not follow her ig, but the entertainment media love to share them.  I wonder if her mother ever thinks "I've created a monster".  Doubt it.  Her mother probably thinks "I've created a cash cow".

I looked at the Billboard Hot 100 songs - in the top 10, I don't even know who these people/artists/bands are - I know of Selena Gomez (but don't know the song), Adam Levine (but he's just "featuring" in a song that I don't know).  I never thought I'd get to this point when it came to music.

I still buy entire albums.  Not always.  But often enough.  And, I still call them albums.
Most recent purchase.  Of course.  Probably another sign that I am old.

When have you thought to yourself "I'm old and out of touch"?

  1. I'm not even 30 and most teens accounts make me cringe.

  2. Ha, one of my favorite Simpsons quotes! I don't know how to download movies (but I do have Netflix). I feel the same about the Jenner girl's instagram. I try to keep up with the lingo but always tend to use it ironically! I still read books. I think about making 90s playlists and get nostalgic for old tv shows from my youth. At work every day I see kids a lot younger than me running their own companies, makes me feel very old!

  3. I'm with you that I can't stand it that young girls think that it's ok to show off everything like that even if they're 18, aka Miley Cyrus and Kylie Jenner. And her mom probably thinks it's wonderful, I mean Kim's sex tape pretty much started her career right?

  4. Looking at the Hot 100 chart, I like the Trap Queen song and I like The Weekend (they usually have good songs), but I wouldn't know who most of those people are otherwise. That's also the worst Selena Gomez song I've ever heard. This is why I listen almost exclusively to Pandora and podcasts in the car. I hate listening to crap (and most of the Hot 100 is crap).
And The Simpsons picture: I feel that almost every day.

  6. Oh man this makes me feel old but I do have Netflix. I so don't get Kylie and some of the younger generation and how they dress and that makes me feel old.

  8. Oh my gosh, yes, I am so old. I do have the stepdaughters to keep me up-to-date but there are things that they do/say that just make me crazy. :\

  9. ugh. I try and keep the Kardashians etc out of my life lol. I used to go on the people / E websites all the time but had to stop because those idiots were annoying me.
seriously, what does What's good mean? it doesn't look like a nice thing the way the gif depicts it, but I don't know.

  10. I can relate to so many things on your list, and I'm only 31. I know I'm not incredibly young anymore, but I'm not really old either.

As for music these days, I'm not a big pop music fan anyway so I often feel completely out of touch when people are discussing songs being played on the radio or I see a list of the most popular songs. Because I'm such a huge music fan, a lot of people seem shocked when I tell them I don't really listen to the radio. I like discovering new music, but I typically search Spotify for artists/bands that are listed as "similar" to the stuff I already know I love. I'm picky, I guess. (And I still buy albums and call them albums.)

  11. I love buying albums and collecting them where I can actually look at them. I even have vinyls. :) I don't know most of the music in the charts either. And I am totally fine with it. When I was still in school I worked in a video store...I don't know if they even exist anymore.:)

  12. That Simpson's gif is the story of my life. I am usually listening to a book, reading a hard copy, and reading something on my Kindle. I'm the Millennial Multi-Tasker's Wet Dream.

  13. Ugh, I feel the same way about Kylie! It's pretty sad. I love that Simpsons meme! I'm technologically up to date, but I can't handle some of the fashion and lingo.

  14. I own exactly one digital movie. It's The Wedding Singer and I bought it through Amazon Prime because we really wanted to watch it and neither of us had the DVD.

And I'm out of touch because HOW is Justin Beiber #1 on the Billboard chart?

  15. LOL! This entry is great! I got super excited for several reasons when I read this entry. First, because I, too, sometimes feel EXTREMELY old and out of touch, especially in the blogging world! Second, because I'm not the last person on the planet to call them albums! And third, becauseI think you are a fellow Bon Jovi fan!
