Thursday Thoughts vol. 2

Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth was murdered, shot in the back, 15 bullets were shot, the gun was emptied into him.  The deputy filled his car up with gas, exchanged words with the gas station attendant who he knew from frequent visits, and was walking back to his car when this unprovoked attack occurred.  He was married and the father of two children.  This happened in my home city of Houston, Texas at an intersection that I am familiar with its exact location.  Sadly, this is not the only police officer killed in the line of duty this week.  In fact, 23 police officers have been killed by gunfire this year in comparison to 9 that were murdered in 2014 according to this cnn article.

Most of you reading this, probably know all of this already.  I'm enraged, shocked, saddened...the emotions are running the spectrum.  Innocent people need to stop being killed.  Innocent people doing their job need to stop being killed.  Innocent people that take risks and attempt to provide safety to others need to stop being killed.  Are there bad cops?  Yes.  Should they be killed?  NO.  By all accounts of Darren Goforth, he was NOT one of those bad cops.  He was an innocent man on the job and running a routine errand.  This needs to stop.

I can not freakin' believe that I am going to have the thoughts above and the thoughts/pictures below in the same post.  But, three cheers for randomness!

MTV VMAs , MTV VMAs, MTV VMAs - so many thoughts, yet do I really care enough to share them?  Not really.  I've determined that the MTV VMAs is truly the first thing in entertainment that makes me feel old and out of touch and being comfortable with that feeling because I don't want to be in touch with the crap that is featured on the MTV VMAs.  I think there was only one performer who actually played a musical instrument.

The only thought I will share about the #KanyeMeltdownBro is he said something to the effect "we're not gonna control our kids with brands".  Uhm...what?!?!  This is the man married to the queen of the Kardashian brand.  What the fuck ever.  Sorry.  I really try to not be overly negative about anyone in this space of mine. I liked Golddigger. There. I said something nice.

See this nice young man?  He is Jarryd Hayne.  He gave up a $10 million dollar contract to continue playing rugby in Australia to chase his dream to play in the NFL.  Not many Aussies make that leap, and he's one of the highest profile players to do so.  He is currently with the 49ers playing pre-season.  He hasn't made the final cut yet, but things are looking good.  He's had his face scanned for Madden 2016, and due to an uncommon interest in a non-contract player, the 49ers actually printed jerseys with his name and number to sell before the final pre-season game.  From all accounts, he is a good guy, humble, positive, hard-working, came from housing projects and doesn't take his success in Australia for granted.  I hope the best for him in his NFL endeavors.

I love reading musics post and playlists that other bloggers share.  I almost always find a new song (or an old song I forgot about) or a new band, as is the case here.  Jana posted about a song that she was jamming called Could Have Been Me by The Struts.  I not only listened to that song, I listened to others by the band.  I looked up their website and social media accounts.  I posted on twitter about it (and got a like from the band and a band member).  I downloaded the entire album.  Damn.  I like this kind of discovery of a band that I instantly love.

  2. I wish the gun violence and violence in general would stop here. It's baffling and heartbreaking the state our country is in with all the mass shootings and shootings of innocent people.

  3. Tyson and I watched the VMA's, I feel like it's time I could have been doing something so much more productive like reading a book or trimming my nails. I like music as much as the next person but MTV isn't really known for their music these days.

I giggled when Kanye was talking and then went to bed, everything he says is so random.

  4. 1. Kanye is such a weirdo. I'm over him. He's old and trying to be relevant. He annoys the mess out of me.
    2. I totally feel you on the shooting thing. I don't even know what to say. It's so sad and people are so hateful...
    3. Also, YES! I'm rooting for Jarryd for sure! Thanks for linking up!

  5. all good thoughts girl. the shootings MUST stop. i can't even say more than that bc it's just so upsetting when you feel like you can't go anywhere because of the uncertainty. MTV is ridiculous but i'll admit i watch it just for the shock factor perhaps. and lastly, i'm totally doing a little music roundup of my fav tunes of the moment - prob next week! thanks for the idea!

  7. Yea, these shootings are just too much! I know many cops/deputies specifically my uncle & my cousin's fiancee. I really worry about them with all this crap going on. :(

As for the VMAs - I am FAR too old to enjoy anything on MTV anymore. & what really gets me is that they have the VIDEO Music Awards but don't play videos anymore. DUMB!

  8. I cannot stand Kanye West. Let's please stop giving the ignorant man a microphone and platform. I didn't bother watching the VMAs...I guess I'm old and out of touch like you, and I'm totally fine with that!

  9. I think that everybody in Houston is still in shock that this happened! Even though it's a horrible tragedy, the city has really come together instead of being torn apart like other areas of the country.
And the VMAs this year, just kill me now lol

  10. It really makes me sad to see all the violence in the world at the moment. I feel so helpless because innocent people are getting killed all the time and it never seems to stop. There are many refugees in Germany right now because they had to run away from war etc in their countries. Some people react with pure hate which is very shocking for me. On the other hand there are many many people who react with kindness and try to give those people a warm welcome which gives me at least some faith in humanity back.

  11. I live under a rock and didn't even realize the VMAs were happening. That said, no fucks would have been given anyways. I'm so not cool enough to keep up with pop culture.. Or the news for that matter, but that's because it's depressing and I'd rather live in my own little bubble.

  12. As a 49ers fan, I'm super excited to have Jarryd Hayne! I hope he does well!

The police shootings are just making me sick. It's terrible and terrifying. My boyfriend's brother-in-law is a police officer for LAPD and it's really scary hearing these stories.
