#sometimeswhenimsittingonthetrain

Confessions from a commuter on a public train........

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train & I can hear an entire (half) conversation from a passenger talking on his/her phone, I get awfully annoyed.  #wrapitup #callemback #nobodywantstoknowyourbiznass #stfu

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train & see a woman's work badge with her name visibly displayed, I want to tell her how potentially dangerous that is.  I imagine her getting off the train, a bad guy following her and saying "Hey, Maria", her turning like she knows him, and him grabbing her.  #strangerdanger #staysafe #carrymace

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train & can hear house/techno music blaring loudly from another passenger's headphones, I think does anyone really listen to that shit?  Then, I realize they could be thinking the same thing about my musical selections.  #hairbandsforever #octoberisrobzombiemonth

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train, I encounter a passenger (or two, or too many to count) that needs to be taught about personal hygiene.  #itscalleddeoderantuseit #deoderantisourfriend #cantyousmellyourself

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train, I encounter a passenger (or two, or too many to count) that needs to be taught about personal space.  #getoutofmybubble #dontcrossmyforcefield

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on the train, I offer my seat to a person who is obviously 20+ years older than me and wonder why others don't do the same.  #respectyourelders #whatswrongwithpeople

Sometimes, when I'm sitting on a train & there are loud talkers, or screaming kids (sorry, I know they scream sometimes), or smelly people, I'll get my ass up and move.  #sorrynotsorry #youaredisturbingmyreading #wheresthequietcarriage

Do you commute on public transport?  What happens to you sometimes, when you're sitting on a train/bus/tram/subway?

  1. Good for you giving up your seat... so many people are just so thoughtless at things like that.
I am the same way when I see people with their names just out there. Especially kids! When parents have it monogrammed on backpacks & stuff, it FREAKS ME OUT!!! Don't do that parents!!!

  2. I go crazy when people invade my space on the train! It's like really??? I can't get over how many people don't get up for elderly people. I always do. Manners are dying. Oh I never wear my work ID for that exact reason. I once was carrying my bag that had my name on it and some guy walks up to me and goes hey Marie!! And I am like do I know you? He was like you don't remember me? I said sorry no I don't. He says no you don't know me I just read your name from your bag! That was the last time I monogrammed my name on my bag! Or carried it for that matter.

  3. I'm always amazed by how people actually are when I'm on things like public transportation. I continuously find myself asking "WHO DOES THAT?!?" It just astounds me.

  4. OMG I've thought all of these on the bus too! I think that guys are the worst about not respecting personal space, there isn't anything going on down there that warrants them spreading their legs into my space and resting their legs on mine! I also hate when people recline their chairs so far back that they're literally laying in my lap so much. I've gotten over being nice and tend to kick or jostle their chair so they know. I'm not very nice in the mornings or when I'm headed home lol

  8. this is awesome! I don't take a train to work but I think I can relate to all of these anyway!

  9. I never sit on the train (like Sheldon on Big Bang, I'd need bus pants to do that) but I yell at teenagers/20 somethings to give up their seat for older people or pregnant women and then shame them on their lack of manners. So I'm a bitch, but at least it makes my commutes super entertaining :)

  10. you smell like beef + cheese! oh man stinky people on the train are the worst. especially when they sit right next to you + have bad breath. like how rude is it to offer a mint?

  11. I always offer my seat to pregnant women and visibly older people. People rarely do that.

  12. Hilarious! No, I am a single occupant in a car commuter, so my commuting experiences are vastly different from yours. However, after reading this I feel as if I would know exactly what to expect!

PS I love the GIF with Tommy Lee chomping on his gum! Classic!

  13. hahahaha yes! i never had to take the train daily but i have taken it many times, and i swear sydney trains are a monster like no other. especially the personal space and hygiene! and ugh house music, for reals. it's allllllll they played in the bars / clubs when i was 18-24, it made me hate it lol

  14. This is why I'm glad I don't have to use public transport. I mean I know I'm killing the environment with my car, but I couldn't handle all this every day. Smell people, oh heck no. And the ones not giving up their seats? I would be glaring them down the whole ride and it would probably make me so angry that I'd be grumpy the rest of the day. Why can't people just be polite when they need to be?

  15. I could never take the train it grosses me out on a good day. B.O. is the worst of them.

  16. I don't commute and when I see posts like this or Steph's comments on FB, I say an extra thank you that I don't have to because #peoplesuck

Your hashtags had me cracking up.

  17. I don't commute at all, yayyy! I do often wonder about people in general who wear name tags around like no one can see who they are.

  18. When I was in DC I saw an old lady tell a dude in a handicap seat that he needed to move and he refused because she didn't ask him nicely.
Also, one of the biggest security things we were taught in the Navy is to put your badge away when you are outside of the area that requires it! I just hate seeing people with their ID's out because #strangerdangerisreal!

  19. I really don't understand why people don't give up their seats for others. It's so rude.

I hate my commute, but I'm really glad I'm the only one in the car!

  20. All of the noises ones are why I won't leave the house without my headphones. I need my music to block all of those out. BO is definitely the worst, especially when you're crammed in with a bunch of strangers in a confined space- there's just no escape! I never understand why people don't move for the elderly or the pregnant. I'm with you, I'd give my seat up in a heartbeat!

Great gifs by the way :)

  21. Lol! I love your hash tags and all the gifs spot on. I live a commuter nightmare Monday to Friday and I tell you, some of the shit I see is astounding. I'm with you on the pass cards. Or giving your credit card number out over the phone. Wtf??!!!!!

  22. I get so annoyed with people carrying on conversations on their phone in any public place. Text if you have to or call to say a few quick sentences, but then be done with it. It's so rude! The name badge thing is scary. My husband isn't even allowed to wear his when he's not at work. He works for the department of defense, but still. Companies should really discourage that!

  23. Haha this is great! I just started taking public transportation about a month ago. I totally carry mace everywhere, keep all my bags locked up and always offer to stand when there's someone older than me. The thing that's the most annoying on our train line is that there is always some guy rapping loudly along with the music on his headphones! I even saw a guy rapping and had a portable disco ball earlier this week!

  24. I do not take public transportation, but I have taken it in the past when traveling. Never for a day-to-day and while I see some perks I'll take my irritated road rage over public transportation. Partly because it is all I've ever known and partly because I don't like a lot of the things you mentioned.

  25. Oh my gosh, this is great! I love that October is the month of Rob Zombie! Tee hee! :)

  26. Haha this cracked me up! I drive to work every day, but, to be honest, the public transportation system is severely lacking in Omaha. I assume it's because it's not a huge city (though I think it's big enough to justify at least a few more bus stops!), but who knows. If we had a better, more efficient system, I'd probably take it at least a few times a week. I know it can get loud and obnoxious, but all I can think about is the fact that I could start and end my day reading. That would be fantastic!

On the other hand, I love being able to start and end my day singing at the top of my lungs to my favorite music ... So I guess they both have their perks!

  27. I would not survive public transportation. I barely survive transporting myself in my car without wanting to smash people. lol

  28. Public transportation can be quite challenging. I hate it when people sit next to me and then talk into their phone in a really really loud voice. I need to be able to concentrate on my book!
