Read My Books results and link up

Did you join us for the Read My Books Challenge?  Today is the day to link-up and tell us how you did.  Yep, it's Thursday in my part of the world, so this post is going live!

I've got (at least) a year's worth of neglected books sitting at home and begging to be read.  I have mysteries and thrillers and YA books.  I have contemporary fiction and historical fiction.  I have books recommended by bloggers and friends, and books I picked up randomly because I liked the cover and synopsis.  I have non-fiction crime stories, rock bios, and a celebrity memoir (or two).  I have plenty to choose from for a month of reading.  I barely made a dent in what is there, but I feel like I accomplished something.

So, how did I do?

Welllllll.....technically, I didn't start tackling this challenge until the 3rd of June because I was in the midst of a library book (The Cartel by Don Winslow) that I didn't finish until then.  It was a good book.  It was worth slightly cheating.

The rest of the month I read SEVEN books from my bookshelf at home.  Four of these I'd purchased at a secondhand bookstore and had been sitting on my shelf for months, possibly years: (Running with Scissors, The Sisters Brothers, Not Without My Sister, Still Missing).  One was a gift from another blogger (The Royal We).  One was on my radar for months (Dumplin'), but the libraries that I use didn't have it.  I'd finally bought it earlier this year.  Lastly, I purchased one (Inside Out & Back Again) using a gift card I received at Christmas, and it's been sitting on my bookshelf since January.

For an added bonus...5 of these counted towards my reading for Semi-Charmed Summer Book Challenge 2016, and the other 2 counted towards my challenge for Around the World in 80 Books.

I was pleased with my results.  How did you do?

Now, link-up and tell Dani & I how you did with the Read My Books Challenge.  Good or bad; successful or failed miserably.  Tell us.

As promised...we are giving away not one, but TWO gift cards on amazon just for participating in the challenge!  Take your chances using the rafflecopter options below.  (For number of books read, please only select ONE option, the one that pertains to the number of books you read during the month of June.)

  1. Well, you did much better than me anyway ;-) Kudos for managing to fit so many of the books into other challenges as well!

  2. I would say that you did well!!! I am actually going to continue on with the whole read my books thing for the month of July and finish up the few archived books I have on Netgalley and maybe hit one of the actual real books I have sitting in a stack in our guest room!

  3. You rocked it!

I swear something that kept me from attacking my bookshelves was a big ass hardback that I didn't want to carry around on the train in the summer...maybe I should attempt that shelf again in the winter!

  4. You rocked it, girl! As I mentioned in my post, overall, I'm pleased with myself. But, looking at the number of books that are still sitting in my Audible library unlisted to, I know that I still have a long way to go... LOL!

  5. I did get one read! Although I haven't read another one since. Brains are weird, sometimes I'm totally into reading and recently it's just been a no-go.

  6. I had a big stack of books ready for this one but only managed two...but still two is better than none! You totally rocked it though! Even for starting just a few days late you read a ton of books!

  7. Well, I managed to eliminate six books, although only 2 were read completely and the other 4 were DNFs. :( But my books options weren't as good as your books. Dumplin, Inside Out and Back Again and The Royal We are on my TBR already. And I added Sisters Brothers and Still Missing from your reviews yesterday.

  8. Oh 7! Wow! That's awesome. I LOVED DUMPLIN'! I hope that you did too. I read all but one of my books from home/netgalley queue. 1 library book stuck in there, so I didn't click the one that said I ONLY read books I one. But I did link up! Still wanting to read the Royal We for sure. :) XO - Alexandra

  9. You still were able to make it through so many of your TBR pile this month! I felt like I fell down on the job even though I only read books that I already had because I still bought books!

  10. honestly, some months (many months!) go by without me even reading ONE book i already own, not to mention i can't remember the last time i didn't buy a book at all... i mean, i had my kindle unlimited/audible membership and i think i bought alyssa's book, but normally i am much much worse. i don't think i read alyssa's till july anyway. but still! sometimes i go ages without reading something i already own, instead i keep buying or borrowing and yeah. i am super thankful and glad you all did this challenge! i'm going to try and keep it up and read most of my books :)

  12. Making a dent is better than nothing!
I rarely have unread books sitting around (I don't know why), so this is, oddly, one problem I don't have ha ha.

  13. Thank you so much for doing this challenge! It really forced me to read books I have been putting off, which I loved!

  14. Seven books is pretty dang good :) I semi-participated in the challenge (as in I mentally noted the books I read that I actually owned) but my results were minimal and pathetic ;) I loved this challenge, though! It's fun to read about other people's experiences!

  15. I loved this challenge, and I think you did a great job (especially considering how many you had to choose from)! One of the hardest things about reading is narrowing down what you're in the mood for, and sometimes having a lot of options to choose from makes it much worse.

Obviously the library offers tons of options, but you're somewhat limited: you can only check out a certain number at a time (at least at my library, though the maximum is 40 so that's still a lot!), you have to prioritize based on due date, sometimes there's a long waiting list so you know you won't get a book for a while, etc. When they're just sitting on your shelf at home, I think it can get more overwhelming.

Anyway, I thought this was a great idea and I'm glad I participated (even if I'm super late in linking up and commenting). I need to try to fit more of my own books into reading challenges in the future (or just into my reading schedule in general), but sometimes it's hard when I find 30 new books I want to read and they're all available at my local library. Haha.

    Thanks again for co-hosting! :-)

  16. Running With Scissors has been sitting on my bookshelf for so long now! I saved my longest book, The Pillars of the Earth, for this challenge. I'm still not done with it. haha
