One of the goals to meet is to watch 50 movies that I have not seen, but I feel like I "should" see (or I just want to watch and haven't gotten around to it yet.) I'm giving myself until 17 June 2023 (it sounds so far away when I put it that way), so I should be able to do this, right? I think so.
How did I compile this list?
- I admitted that there were some fairly "obvious" movies that I've never seen
- Some are movies I've been meaning to see (like a documentary by Dave Navarro)
- I asked for suggestions from fellow "fall film challenge" members
- I reviewed lists of Academy Award Winners (If a movie has a year after it, then it won an Oscar for Best Picture that year.)
- I asked facebook friends for suggestions as well as a couple of blogger buddies that are movie buffs.
- I added movie adaptations of books that I enjoyed immensely but have yet to see
- I looked at lists of Australian-made movies
- About Time (because it's from the creator of Love Actually)
- The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
- Amadeus (1984)
- Apocalypto
- A Beautiful Mind (2001)
- Beauty & the Beast
- Bernie
- The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
- Breakfast at Tiffany's
- A Bridge Too Far
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
- Calendar Girls
- Candy
- The Castle
- Cinderella Man
- Creation
- The Danish Girl
- The Dead Pool
- Devil's Knot
- Driving Miss Daisy
- Easy Rider
- Fiddler on the Roof
- Gandhi (1982)
- The Hundred-Foot Journey
- The Intouchables
- Kelly's Heroes (it's the husband's favorite)
- The King's Speech (2010)
- The Kite Runner
- The Little Mermaid
- Memoirs of a Geisha
- Mourning Son (documentary)
- The Painted Veil
- The Pianist
- Pride & Prejudice
- Rebel Without a Cause
- Red Dog
- Room
- Shine
- Silkwood
- Sophie's Choice
- The Sound of Music
- Spectre
- Spotlight (2015)
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens
- Still Alice
- There Will Be Blood
- Trainwreck
- Two Hands
- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
- Wolf Creek
What do you think about my list??
Admittedly, there are many on your list that I haven't seen either. A few weeks ago, when we learned that the musical stage production of The Sound of Music will be part of next year's Broadway Across America series and coming to Louisville, he said, "I wonder how close it will be to the movie." I said, "I don't know, I've never seen the movie." He stopped mid stride and looked at me like I was an alien or something! I'm taking comfort in knowing that I'm not the only one who has not seen it. :)
ReplyDeleteOf the ones I have seen, Driving Miss Daisy, Cinderella Man, The Hundred Foot Journey, Calendar Girls, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Memoirs of a Geisha are very good, in my opinion. From this year's Oscars, I also really liked Room and Spotlight. The Danish Girl... Well, let's just say that It wasn't a favorite, but I'm glad I saw it. I'll be interested to hear what you think of it. Have a good one!
I'm shocked you haven't seen The Sound of Music. I really really like The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel! I hope you do, too! And I appreciate the alphabetical order! :)
ReplyDeletei don't think i've seen a lot of these. breakfast at tiffany's and sound of music though - such classics! king's speech put me to sleep haha. lets see what else... the pride and prejudice version with keira knightly is one of my fav movies of all time! also i thought train wreck was funny but others did not like it. go into it knowing it'll be silly and i think you'll enjoy!

I haven't seen a lot of these, but very happy to see The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast on your list :) I just saw Breakfast at Tiffany's this year and finally understand why it's such a classic! I need to see Gone with the Wind and Casablanca. Good luck with this challenge!
ReplyDeleteSo many good ones on there.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to see what you think of Memoirs of a Geisha since you're reading the book. (Right? I'm not confusing my bloggers, am I?)
& you know it makes my heart happy to see Beauty & the Beast on your list. I suggest you do that one first :) haha
How do you find time to read and watch?
ReplyDeleteI'm a reader and only watch movies if forced to usually.
I'm SO glad that there is another person out there that hasn't seen The Sound of Music! Ha, ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad to see some Disney flicks on there & Rebel Without a Cause. I love me some James Dean. :)
I haven't seen a bunch of those movies (but I've read the book. I'm assuming that counts, though?) and some I don't care to see (Star Wars) and of the ones I've seen, I highly recommend Trainwreck. It's surprisingly awesome. The Little Mermaid is Erica's favorite.
ReplyDeleteSooo Beauty and the Beast, Driving Miss Daisy and The Little Mermaid are the only movies I have seen on this list. Clearly I need to get cracking too!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen 5 on your list, but I probably won't ever see the other 45. Ah well! I'll rely on you to let me know how they are!
ReplyDeleteNice to see some Disney princess movies on here since you posted recently that you haven't seen a whole lot :).
ReplyDeleteYou have so many great movies on your list including my favorite Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast! I can't believe that you haven't seen The Sound Of Music, but I'm glad that will be remedied soon! And which Pride and Prejudice are you going to watch? The BBC version or the one with Kiera Knightly? I'm so excited to here what you think about some of these movies!
ReplyDeleteGirl I probably need to print this list for myself because i havent seen half of them! Keep us updated!
ReplyDeleteThere are a couple of these I've been wanting to watch, too, and a couple that I can't believe you haven't seen!
ReplyDeleteI LOVED About Time. Loved loved loved.
ReplyDeletewell i already 'commented' or whatever in an email... but imma comment again. wolf creek?! BLAH no thanks haha. i watched that once, like 10 years ago and i still have nightmares!
ReplyDeleteoh and i loved the kings speech! i don't want you to watch pride and prejudice in case you hate it.
ReplyDeleteGreat list. A lot of these movies are based on books - some are on my TBR list. Are you going to read the books first? Where are you in the challenge now?
