For the month of June, Dani and I are challenging ourselves to "read my books". We challenge you to do it with us (but your own books, of course, or ebooks or audiobooks, whatever you have waiting for you.) We picked JUNE to give us plenty of time to organize ourselves and plan ahead (for me, this means reading all my library books checked and clearing any reserves.) We will host a link-up in July, and any of you that succeeded in the "Read My Books" challenge will be eligible to win a gift card from Amazon (to buy more books!)!!!
Link-up will be the second THURSDAY of JULY (because lots of us participate in Steph's and Jana's "Show Us Your Books" link-up which is always the second Tuesday, so this should be a pretty easy post to prepare for after that one.)
Mark your calendar to start reading only books your already own from June 1st through June 30th, link-up to report your success on Thursday, July 14th, and try your luck at winning $$$ from Amazon.
I love this idea! Definitely going to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteI still haven't followed through on the last challenge. I feel like I just have crappy access to the books I want. I don't want to buy books because I don't know if I'll like them. Good libraries are hard to find.
ReplyDeleteI do like this idea.
Kristin, are you in the Pikes Peak Library District? They have Interlibrary Loans. You can request a book and they will find it in another library system and have it sent to your library. I have done it several times through my library system. Also, you should talk to your librarian. They often have discretionary funds to order books requested by patrons. You should find out if your library does. Librarians love books, too. They get it and they want you to find the books you want.
DeleteI'm going through my books this week and actually getting rid of MANY. So I'll save the ones I haven't read and read them in June! Sharing this on SUYB tomorrow for you guys.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fabulous idea even though I'm already doing this. I realized with so much going on lately I just keep returning library books unread, so I'm reading some of what I have because there's no deadline on those books!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea! Especially since my in-house TBR grows faster than my Read list. Excited to join in!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I have so many eBooks on my account that I actually need to read! Not to mention that every time I walk into Half Price Books I walk out of the store with another book... I can't wait to join in!
ReplyDeleteI'd start with Still Missing; I really enjoyed the twists and turns in that one. I can't see the title of the Gabriel Garcia Marquez one, but I do enjoy his writing, and One Hundred Years of Solitude is on my shelves. I also have my first (and only) Jodi Piccoult book waiting for me!
ReplyDeleteYikes!! I'm going to try this - but I know some pretty book cover at the library will distract me!! ;)
ReplyDeleteI have read all the physical books sitting around my house, but I have a ton of free books I have downloaded on my ipad and ummmm I have like 7 netgalley books that I need to read to! Do those count? Haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! A few years back when Borders went out of business, I snagged a bunch of books and some are still unread. Oops. This is a great way to clear some space (and guilt).
ReplyDeleteI kind of attempted this with the challenge you have going on now! I tried to pick a few books that I already own & those are the first ones I was reading!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I have many unread e-books that I could be reading!
ReplyDeleteI need to do this! It's ridiculous how many books I own that I've never actually read! Count me in.
ReplyDeleteSUMMERLONG. READ SUMMERLONG FIRST.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm shouting. No, I don't care.
Okay I can't say no to this one! I have so many books that I own but haven't read! I am in!
ReplyDeleteOh this sounds like such a great idea!! I don't have too many books in print that I haven't read, but I do have a few and I was already hoping to tackle them this year, so this will be extra motivation for me!! I don't know if I'll extend it to e-books because I have TONS of Free kindle reads & books from Netgalley that just might never make the cut but I can't say no to free books, haha.
ReplyDeletePS - in a backwards way, this is also motivation not to BUY any more books...LOL
DeleteThis is awesome. I have so many books I'm dying to read and I actually have a similar goal on my 101 in 1001 list. This will be good motivation!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a good idea-- I have so many books on my shelf that I genuinely do want to read, but always skip over for some reason!
ReplyDeleteCool challenge. I better start gathering my books now :).
ReplyDeleteI definitely need to do this!!
ReplyDeleteI saw this post when it went up and forgot to comment because I was reading it on the Bloglovin' app on my phone. Obviously today is all about book talk, though, so it's still a good time to respond! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a similar goal on my spring goals list, though I committed to only reading 4 of the books I already own. I don't actually own THAT many books I haven't read yet (I think the last time I counted there were only 7 or 8), but I keep putting them off. (I especially keep putting off one of them because it's over 800 pages of really tiny print.) I'm crazy with my library hold list. One of my friends at work and I look at the library website when we aren't busy and we've started singing "If you like it then you shoulda put a hold on it" every time I add new books to my hold list ... Which is often. (And yes, it's as silly and ridiculous as I'm sure you'd imagine it to be.) Haha.
I'll definitely be joining this challenge! I've been putting off buying new books until I read everything I own (or at least 4 of them), so this will hopefully encourage me to get through them a little more quickly so I can get a few more!
I'm all over this! I have soooo many books that look amazing that just sit there because of my never ending library holds list. Such a great idea, ladies!
ReplyDeletei am obviously so down! i might post a day later or earlier though, because my monthly link up is on the 2nd thursday of every month, and i would never link up to something else with my link up, if that makes sense. but i am totally down because i was just thinking the other day that my books are getting out of control. there's no way i will be able to read them all, but it will be a fun challenge to read only books i own in june!
