Currently.....Linking Up vol.3

Reading.....  Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden; an example why I enjoy book challenges; they encourage me to read books that have been sitting on my "to read" list for years.

Watching......  the American Idol finale is this week; the final finale of the series.  I record it and try to avoid all spoilers.

Listening..... to The Armchair Librarians podcast; right now; as I type this; I'm listening to Steph, Jana, and guest host Erica talk about books; they are on iTunes now, and I was overjoyed the were on Australia iTunes too.

Singing..... the new Sia song "Cheap Thrills"; I hear it once, and it stays in my head for dayssssss.

Noticing..... that several of my single girlfriends are having terrible luck with online dating.

Admitting.....  that in the midst of their horror stories, some are damn funny!, but some are just downright sad and disappointing.

Appreciating...... that I'm not in the single world.

Sharing.....  this story: Steven Tyler fan gets chance meeting of a lifetime because these are the kinds of celebrity stories that make my heart happy.  Do yourself a favor...click the link and watch the video.

Eating..... I had chips & salsa for lunch; I had to spend $7 for a good salsa (instead of Old El Paso), but it was worth it.

Drinking.....  sparkling water

Wearing.....Technically, it is Autumn here, but today is a high of 91*F, so I'm still rocking the Spring clothes as long as I can.

Needing..... to get my nails done; I've been giving them a break and letting them breathe since I typically get Shellac, but they are looking shabby!

Waiting.....  for my permanent residency visa to get approved.  I've been here 7+ years, and I'm ready for the relief of all this to be completed.

Planning..... activities for the 8-year-old stepson next week; he has school holidays, and we have him for a full week, so I'm taking a couple of days to hang with him, and my guy is taking time off too for father/son time.

Visiting.....  the library on Monday with the boy, so he can check out some books for his week at our house.  Who am I kidding?  I'm going to check out books too.

Going.....  to the Sydney Brick Show (a big lego extravaganza); perfect timing for our week with the stepkid.

  1. Good salsa is so hard to find! I keep meaning to try and make some myself but then just grab the sad excuse for salsa the grocery store has!

  2. oooh that brick show looks like tons of fun! so what happens when your permanent residency gets approved? i know mine is good for 10 years here, and i assume i just re-apply in 10 years (that should be fun.... and expensive.. but not as expensive as yours, i know!). i can send you salsa next time! haha jk it will probably break and then you'll get a box full of salsa, literally. thanks for linking up with us girlfran!

  3. I'm so jealous that it's autumn there. I don't like spring. Summer is questionable. Autumn is my favorite.
(Also, Colorado seasons are weird compared to other states...it's just always dry and windy, no matter the season.)
I think taking a kid to the library is a great place to start. On that podcast this week, Jana's daughter said she didn't like Frindle, but I LOVE Frindle, so maybe you could read it to your stepson? It might be too high for him to comprehend on his own.

    1. Erica hated that book so much. She didn't at first but then as it went on, it just made her angry. She hid it in her laundry basket for DAYS because she didn't want to look at it. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that her school made her read it and she didn't get to choose it on her own.

  4. Always wear bright spring colors :)
Yippe for library trips on the schedule.
I gotta remember that AI finale tonight. I want to go down memory road.
Oh, I forgot I read that book... I remember because the ending of the movie is totally different. You'll have to post how you liked the book.

  6. Several of the books I read for your challenge had been on my to-read list forever!

Yayyy for all things Lego, I love that they appeal to such a wide range of ages too.

  7. Thanks for the shout out for the podcast!

Enjoy the time with your stepson. From what you've told me, he'll love the Legos and the library.

  8. I'm still waiting to wear my spring clothes here. Apparently, we're going to get another cold front! Every time I put my little space heater away I have to bring it out again.

  10. I just started listening to the Armchair Librarians too! Love it! And Memoirs of a Geisha is probably one of my favorite books. So beautiful. I can't wait to hear what you think!

  11. I really loved Memoirs of a Geisha. I remember being totally entranced by that world.

    Love the LEGO Bricks!

    Thanks for mentioning Armchair Librarians!

  12. Two of my very close friends are divorced and back out in the dating world again. Although, initially, their stories are kind of exciting, they leave me with the utter dreadful feeling, reminding me of when I was out in the dating world, which I equated to being in a shark tank! I appreciate that I'm not out in the dating world, too!

    That Lego exhibit/thing looks awesome!

I read Memoirs of a Geisha several years ago before I went to Japan. I enjoyed it. What do you think so far?

  13. Oh I LOVED Memoirs of a Geisha! Such beautiful writing. I might go and re-read it. I have to say, that Lego exhibition looks awesome and I don't even have any kids to go with as an excuse. My husband is a big kid, does that count?! Visa shenanigans sound awful. I'm actually fairly seriously trying to move out to Sydney for work and the whole sponsorship thing is a nightmare. So we'll see how that one goes!

  14. That brick show looks like so much fun, and perfect timing! I've had Memoirs of a Geisha on my bookshelf for years as well. Hoping to read it this year as I attempt to read everything currently on my bookshelves!

  15. Yes, I know what you mean. I finally, FINALLY picked up Atonement, and that's been on my to-read list for YEARS.

  16. I've been listening to Steph and Jana too :) Online dating is sort of like regular dating when you think about it. But instead of meeting these creepos at bars and out and about we talk to them online first. Fun fact, I met my husband online! But I had my share of hilarious stories before him so I get it.

  17. The spring clothes look great on you so I'd keep rocking them too. My sister is in Newcastle and she was saying that it was hot as well.

  18. It's been so long since I read Memoirs of a Geisha but I remember enjoying it. Love the pink you're rocking, hair and clothes. Pink is one of my favorite colors and always makes me feel happy. I have two books on my bookshelf, waiting to be read and two books waiting for me to pick-up at the library. Giddy but don't know where to start! Have fun with your stepson!

  19. I think all the single ladies who try online dating are so brave! It would be s hard for me to put myself out there like that! Love your spring outfit! I think good salsa is always worth paying for! ;)

  20. One of my good friends was doing the online dating thing for a while, and her stories were a combination of horror and humor. Thankfully, she met a guy that seems to be working out well for her, but man ... I think being single these days could be really rough. It didn't help that she lives in a super tiny town. She'd tell me that she'd look at profiles on OKCupid and then days later she'd go out with a girlfriend to one of the only bars in town and see a bunch of guys who looked really familiar ... And then she'd realize, "Oh, I saw your profile on OKCupid. You like sushi and really shitty music." (or something similar). Haha. It's weird how you suddenly know all of these random facts about someone you haven't even gone out with yet. (Though I guess blogging is kind of like that too, huh? Haha.) I still think it would be weirder to deal with that in a romantic situation, though ... Part of the fun of a first date is getting to know more about this person you're interested in. It seems like a lot of that would be ruined if you already knew his top 10 favorite bands, his favorite vacation spot, what his family is like (and maybe even what they look like if he's posted pictures), etc. But anyway ... I didn't plan to write that much about online dating in this comment!

I love your springy outfit and the fact that it goes perfectly with your hair! So pretty! :-)

The Sydney Brick Show looks so awesome! I can't wait to see your pictures!

  21. I would definitely pay $7 if it meant that I got to eat yummy chips and salsa instead of old El Paso! I'm right there with you in being thankful that I'm not single in this world! It just seems like technology has made everything so much more complicated! And hooray for spending the week with your stepson! I can't wait to hear all about your exciting adventures!!

  22. Oh my gosh I am reading Modern Romance right now and all the talk about online dating and the 'omg he didn't text me back' blah blah blah is so overwhelming. I'm thankful that I met Michael before Apple added 'read' receipts to their texts because geez that would give me anxiety!! But I'm glad when people are able to find love online too!

  23. I'm so excited about the Idol finale tonight! I loved both of the finalist from their auditions so I seriously don't know who I want to win. I would be happy with either one! Thank you so much for linking up with us :)

  24. How are you finding Memoirs of a Geisha? I read it years ago and loved it!

Fingers crossed for your permanent residency!
